This is a collaboration between LMX Unlimited and J.J. McCullough.

Outside the metropole of dominate world opinion, in the intellectual periphery of the domestic media of Canada, the chattering classes of pseudo-nationalist compradors and court intellectuals debate the question of Canadian identity in an endless droning loop.

One man stands outside this deliberately stalled cycle, Canada’s most important independent political commentator: J.J. McCullough. 

In confronting the national question in Canada, LMX Unlimited returned, again and again, to McCullough, seemingly the great opposite of our historiographic project. 

This T-Shirt attempts to elucidate a genealogy of J.J. McCullough’s thought and comes out of the ‘J.J.-ism: Archeologies of Culture in the Long North American Century’ seminar that LMX Unlimited was invited to host during the Spring 2026 semester at Western University. Through rigorous study and at times contentious debate, McCullough’s influences and antimonies were explicated, providing the raw material that became this T-Shirt. 

From the co-managed Oregon Territory, to the NAFTA Superhighway and the speculative ‘Amero’, the insurmountable force of North American continental congruity continually breaks its own rules, melts down its own limits, and absorbs every force that tries to destroy it. 

If LMX Unlimited is engaged in the excavation of a romantic national character from the dustbin of so-called ‘Canadian’ history, McCullough is dowsing for deeper currents still, exposing a subterranean cartography of that rough continental beast, that omnipresent entity whose slow slouching gait narrates the dynamics of planetary events and in whose passing shadow we recognize the supreme folly of all our once precious identifications to be as mere refracted phantasms of its ever greater becoming.
